The Teller Of Tales

Hello and welcome to the exciting world
of Starshine Storytime!
My name is Davina, the Teller Of Tales and I run
our exciting original sessions.

Why did I create Starshine Storytime?
Firstly I ran early childhood music sessions for over a decade.
Then I had my own two children and took them to various groups.
Whilst pregnant with my daughter, I struggled with perinatal depression. I knew the positive effect of music and mindfulness on mood, but also the struggles of enjoying the wonderful small moments with my little ones when my mood was low.
I wanted to create something new that took all the best elements of what I had trained in/taught and combined it with what already works from other groups out there. Not only that, but create an atmosphere where parents and carers can bond in a magical way with their little ones, relax, breathe and meet fellow adults going through similar challenges.
What is my background?
Back in 2011, I worked at a Montessori Nursery running music sessions during my gap year before training at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in Voice and Opera, where I graduated with 1st Class Honours. I worked for years running singing sessions/workshops in different settings such as care homes, day centres, mainstream primary/secondary schools, SEN/PMLD schools and for organisations such as Welsh National Opera. In 2019 I turned my attention back to early years music in particular and gained my Certificate in Music Education: Early Childhood.

With the arrival of Covid, my son was born. Then 19 months later my daughter. Whilst finding work around them, I found other areas of linked interests - Story Massage (a way of making storytime more kinesthetic), yoga (creating a story physically), and Hygge (a Danish way of finding a cozy feeling). Combining them all just seemed to make sense!
